This morning at a press conference the second edition of the «Literary Toast International Competition» was presented, organised by the IGUAL A TI Association and the Carlos Moro Winery with the support of the Council for Economic Development and Innovation.

The president of the IGUAL A TI Association, Santiago Urizarna, has explained that, thanks to the success of the first edition (held in 2014 with over 300 literary toasts presented), this second edition of the competition has been organised in collaboration with the Carlos Moro Winery, located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. This literary competition, according to Urizarna, «stimulates people with intellectual disabilities to write toasts and to develop their creative and literary skills”.

For his part, Roberto Sanz, Communication and Company Strategy Director for Bodegas Familiares Matarromera has highlighted that «this competition is an example of integration by means of blending culture and wine linked to the celebration of our traditions such as toasting».

For her part, the councillor for Economic Development and Innovation, Leonor González Menorca, has shown commitment to this literary competition and has shown the support of the La Rioja Government in the edition of a book of the winning toasts.

Regarding the competition rules, the toasts must be original, unedited and must not have received awards from other competitions. All authors above 18 years old may take part regardless of their nationality. Moreover, a category has been established for people with an intellectual disability.

The toasts may be presented in prose or poetry, provided that they are in Spanish. The text must have a minimum of 40 words and a maximum of 80 words. The toasts may be entered on up to six sheets of paper, or can be sent by e-mail to: brindis.literario@igualati.org in two documents, the toast text with its title and the form with the author’s details.

The topic is free choice. Each author can present up to two toasts. The deadline for sending them to the IGUAL A TI Association (C/ Luis de Ulloa 6, Logroño) is the 15th of May.

The decision of the jury will be given on the 15th of June and the prizes will be awarded between the 25th and 30th of June 2018 at the IGUAL A TI Association headquarters at a prize-giving gala night.

IGUAL A TI Association

The IGUAL A TI Association is the oldest in its sector in La Rioja. It was set up over 50 years ago (on the 31st of January 1964) as a response to the concerns of a group of parents of children with intellectual disabilities. They believed mutual support was needed and that everybody should commit to supporting people with intellectual disabilities and their families. It has over 150 professionals and 368 people are cared for at their centres and services in Logroño and Calahorra.

 Carlos Moro Winery

Carlos Moro founded Matarromera in 1988 but his passion for the land and wine stems from the long wine-growing tradition of his ancestors. In 2014, his bid for the prestigious Denominación de Origen Rioja Category came into fruition when the company «Bodegas & Viñedos Carlos Moro» was set up.

In 2015, the Carlos Moro Winery celebrated its first harvest with over 400,000 kg and in 2016 it opened its doors to wine tourism, providing different experiences for tourists visiting this highly prestigious area with a wine growing tradition. During their visit they tour the impressive underground cellar, which is 300 metres long and more than 1,200 square metres, and visit the different floors via a panoramic lift from which the wine making production process can be seen.
