Carlos Moro presented CM PRESTIGIO, the most exclusive red wine from the La Rioja winery. It bears his name and is a wine that Carlos Moro himself describes as «an exquisite wine with unusual robustness and complexity, since it has finesse and sophistication both on the nose and on the palate, making it a true work of art«.

Places related to the world of art have been chosen for the brand. Last year, Moro’s first signature wine CM 2015 was launched at the Prado Museum. This time, the exclusive presentation event took place at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, where those attending could taste the wine and privately visit all the most important pictures related to the world of art.

The entrepreneur José Luis Bonet, chairman of the Spain Chamber of Commerce, accompanied Carlos Moro at the event, highlighting that wine is one of the main assets of the Spanish Brand. «It is a product which links tradition and innovation and is synonymous with quality and internationalisation, and it also embodies the intangible values which define our lifestyle, all of which are qualities that define the Spanish Brand», he said. Bonet stressed the need to opt for quality and innovation. «Spanish wine must be repositioned as a high-range product to be presented in the most booming markets, such as in Asia, where the growing number of consumers with high purchasing power demand quality and brand”, he remarked.

CM Prestigio comes from Tempranillo vineyards owned by the Carlos Moro Winery in Labastida, Álava: El Acueducto, Altabaza, Cuba negra and Larrázuri. These vineyards are between 35 and 80 years old and are planted using a traditional head-pruning system on the clay soil with excellent presierra (foothills). They have limited production which gives rise to small grapes. There are three stages in selecting grapes (one in the field and two in the winery, first by bunch and then grape by grape) and production is very limited, with only 38,000 bottles bearing the name CM Prestigio 2015. This wine is aged for 18 months in both French (80%) and American (20%) exclusively new barrels. The wine yielded has a deep cherry red shade. It is dark and shiny and has a sophisticated, intense and complex bouquet and a silky, long and persistent taste.

Carlos Moro Wineries and Vineyards. The personal bid of the wine producer and wine grower

Carlos Moro founded Matarromera in 1988 but his passion for the land and wine stems from the long wine-growing tradition of his ancestors. In 2014, his bid for the prestigious Denominación de Origen Rioja Category came into fruition when the company «Bodegas & Viñedos Carlos Moro» was set up.

In 2015, the Carlos Moro Winery celebrated its first harvest of over 400,000 kg and in 2016 it opened its doors to wine tourism, providing different experiences for tourists visiting this highly prestigious area with a wine growing tradition. During their visit they tour the impressive underground cellar, which is 300 metres long and more than 1,200 square metres, and visit the different floors via a panoramic lift from which the wine making production process can be seen.

At present, he owns over 20 hectares of vineyards which are distributed over 23 plots located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in La Rioja and Labastida in Álava. He also owns 75 hectares in these localities and in Ábalos, a municipality annexed to San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
